Targeted Youth Support Assistants Training Programme
The Targeted Youth Support Service is providing a programme of evening and Saturday courses free to the voluntary sector.
The following programme is to support the development of skills and knowledge for all TYS Assistants and volunteers. The courses are offered throughout the year and also support the new Level 2 Certificate in Youth Work Practice. To apply for any of the courses below use the TYSS Application Form and send it to Sue Cowcher (sue.cowcher@eastsussex.gov.uk).
Youth Work Practice
Sue Manwaring, 10th March, 9.30 am to 4.40 pm, Archery Youth Club, Eastbourne.
This course covers understand the purpose and role of youth work interventions, the principles and practice of equal opportunities and the skills, knowledge, qualities and values required to practice within youth work
Substance Misuse
Jen Parsons, 5th & 12th March, 6 pm to 9pm, Charlies Youth Drop In, Eastbourne.
This course covers what drugs look like and how they affect the user? Signs and symptoms of drug and alcohol use. Why young people use drugs and alcohol? And referral to specialist services.
Communication Skills
Sue Manwaring, 21st April, 9.30 am to 4.30 pm, Archery Youth Club, Eastbourne
This course includes one to one skills, working with groups and young people’s information needs.
Sexual Health Awareness
Sam Buckwell, 5th May ’12, 9.30 am to 4.30 pm, Archery Youth Club, Eastbourne.
This course looks at sex and sexuality, STIs & safer sex, contraception and pregnancy. Also relationships & negotiations.
Disability Awareness
Vikki Cann/Sue Manwaring, 21st May, 6pm to 9pm, Charlies Youth Drop In, Eastbourne.
This course will cover the rights of disabled young people and legislation, raise awareness of disabilities and special educational needs look at barriers to being inclusive and what practical support can be put in place to support young people with disabilities.
Health & Safety
Lynne Charmer , 18th June, 6pm to 9pm, Charlies Youth Drop In, Eastbourne.
This course looks at lone working, health & safety in the work place, basic risk assessment for worker and young people, and challenging difficult behaviour.
Group Leader
Leanne Bennett, 9th July, 6pm to 9pm, Charlies Youth Drop In, Eastbourne.
This course covers the purpose and value of off site visits, health & safety general guidance, management of risk through risk assessment, competence, supervision and leadership roles and responsibilities.
Emergency First Aid at Work
Freedom Leisure, 14th July ’12, Archery Youth Club, Eastbourne.
This course is a one day first aid course. It ensures practitioners can take control of a first aid situation in the workplace in the absence of a fully trained first aider.
Positive Environment
Sue Manwaring, 6th August, 6pm to 9pm, Charlies Youth Drop In, Eastbourne.
This course covers how to create a positive environment for young people and how to support the personal care needs of young people.
Food Hygiene
Enhanced Training, 8th September, Archery Youth Club, Eastbourne
The aims and objectives of the CIEH Foundation Food Hygiene course are to equip all attendees with an appreciation of the importance of good hygiene practice when preparing and serving food. This is a nationally recognised qualification and is recognised in all sectors of the food industry. The course is ideal for first level workers who require training in the fundamental skills of food safety.
